Ecoma Alaga is a seasoned political affairs, peacebuilding and governance expert with over two decades of experience shaping peace and security outcomes across West Africa and the Sahel. She currently serves as West Africa Team Leader and Senior Political Affairs Officer at the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, where she advises senior leadership, governments, and regional organisations on conflict prevention, political risk, and institutional strengthening.
Her work sits at the intersection of policy, diplomacy, and systems leadership, with a strong focus on translating political analysis into timely, coordinated action. She has played a pivotal role in advancing regional peace and security architectures, strengthening early warning–early action systems, and shaping evidence-based policy that informs high-level decision-making.
She is also widely recognized for integrating Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) into governance and security frameworks. Through her leadership, she continues to influence multilateral and regional responses to complex crises, championing anticipatory action, inclusive governance, and sustainable peace.
