Hawa C. Wagué is the World Bank Country Manager for Burundi, a role she assumed on July 1, 2022. Previously, she served as the Resident Representative for Togo for four years. A Mauritanian national, she joined the World Bank in 2002 and has held key positions, including Senior Country Economist for Nigeria and Senior Economist in the Credit Risk Department.
With extensive expertise in credit risk, macroeconomic policy, and financial management, she has played a pivotal role in advancing economic and structural reforms across multiple countries. She also represented the World Bank Group at the Paris Club on sovereign debt issues. Before joining the World Bank, she worked as a Senior Analyst at the Bank of Canada.
