Edith Olubunmi Lawson is a seasoned public-sector professional with over three decades of dedicated service in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. She is married and began her career with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in December 1991 now Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
Mrs. Lawson’s professional journey commenced at the Welfare Unit of NNPC, where she gained early exposure to employee relations and organizational support systems. She subsequently transitioned to Staff Recruitment and Records, contributing to human resource administration and personnel management functions within the Corporation.
Her career later progressed into Stakeholder Relations, where she distinguished herself through sustained engagement with industry operators and host communities. In this role, she worked closely with various operators, first serving as a supervisor and later advancing to the position of Deputy Manager, External Relations. Her responsibilities encompassed stakeholder coordination, relationship management, and the facilitation of constructive partnerships between the Company, operators, and host communities.
Notably, Mrs. Lawson championed the implementation of the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) Fund, as provided for under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Through her leadership and advocacy, she played a pivotal role in advancing the framework for structured host community development, promoting sustainable engagement, accountability, and socio-economic impact in oil-producing areas.
Her career reflects a strong commitment to institutional development, stakeholder collaboration, and the advancement of policies aimed at fostering harmony between the petroleum industry and its host communities.
She is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM).
